1) Never been more jealous of Maribel Verdu
2) Swimming in a pool full of leaves would be an absolute sensory nightmare
This movie perfectly captures a slice of life for the youth in 90s Mexico, touching on some sociopolitical themes with a sense of adventure. There’s a sense of romanticism, shown by the beautiful scenes of the countryside and coastal towns, that’s juxtaposed by the harsh reality of the working class trapped by the police state. All in all, a great film I could enjoy over and over again.
Solid Kubrick film- though didn’t appreciate my feelings being tugged back and forth by Barry Lyndon himself. In the first half of the film, he’s presented as an underdog and you start to empathize then all goes out the window in the other half when he spirals into a self-sabotaging, self-indulgent, sad excuse of a father and husband. Quite a tragic film actually. Very satisfying to see his stepson shoot his annoying ass.
