Barbie 2023
Very comedic movie. Definitely made me laugh a lot. However, I had really high expectations and left the theatre disappointed. It didn’t add anything new. Everything was also spoon-fed to viewers, not allowing us to draw their own conclusions or interpret things differently. One of Barbie’s main themes is how in the real world, women lack social agency, but there is no intersectionality at all. The patriarchy is about often, but there is no talk about race or socioeconomic inequality. Did I like dressing up for Barbie? Yes. Did I like the idea they were going for? Yes. Did I like Barbie? No.
