Incredibly well balanced movie that so easily could have dipped into a simple “buddy comedy” trope. Instead, Jesse Eisenberg has created a nuanced road movie that has charming, beautifully realised flawed characters with depth.
A great example of show don’t tell, wrapped up in a spot on runtime.
Good to see the original influence of so many modern British gangster films. It’s slow pacing and steady story progression left me wanting for a climactic ending that never came.
The only thing that fails this movie is the marketing. I saw the film with no knowledge of the story, trailer or stars. It was from a single frame and very basic blurb.
The film delivers incredible visuals, which really ground you in the times and culture of the various characters.
The story is an out and out revenge thriller, elevated with the politics and complexities of the Northern Irish Troubles.
A very well made film, which deserves a marketing that sells it as the elevated revenge thriller that it is.
