Anatomy of a Murder 1959
At least Chicago made its unscrupulous lawyer charming. He didn't have a whole movie to carry as protagonist, either. This movie just assumes its audience will get behind an obvious malefactor just because his one friend is an endearing old man. I'd call him a villain but that would make him sound a lot more interesting than he is. The man's most salient character trait is he loves fishing.
And don't get me started on the women.
