roma feels more grounded and real than most biopics - it knows when to breathe and endlessly immerse, so much so that even odder happenings felt so at place within the world.
the story it tells might not be particularly spectacular but it exists in a fascinating, escalating and troublesome environment, occasionally skirting shakespearean comedy/tragedy. it expresses itself so thoughtfully, and lets you build your own understanding of the world and its characters over its runtime.
i haven't been so rapt by a film in a long while. a pleasant surprise
