  There's an almost haunting objectivity going on here that I can't quite place my finger on. The erotic is the mechanical, and the mechanical is the erotic. Shots of bloody human wounds are treated the same as the depiction of gruesome details of car wrecks, but those same images (in the context of the film) also represent something of desire and lust (at least to the characters).   This has to be my fifth or sixth viewing and I got something new from the assassin subplot this time. Love how intricate and layered, yet totally instinctual it all is.

  Maybe it's because I'm a cis viewer who didn't pick up on all the moments of transphobia here or maybe it's because I was expecting it, but it wasn't the transphobia that really made this an ugly experience for me. Sure, it's there - it's hard to argue that this is anything but a retrograde depiction of a trans woman - but wow this is one of the most racist things I've seen in a while.
