among the bleak aspects of this film, for me: how foregrounded mechanical––that is, constructed––ambient sound is in the mix. the lives of wendy and lucy are so of their surroundings, so shaped by the norms of a country whose citizens uphold a "justice" system that involves encaging a woman because she tried to feed her friend.
