I'm not sure if you should trust your feelings about a movie after watching one on a plane. There's something about the experience that is either extra dulling or often in my case, extra emotional. (I have no explanation).
However, I'd seen this movie in theaters and also at home before so I feel confident in saying it is still a spectacular romcom and maybe one of the best to come out of the last 6-8 years? Really good characters and a smart and beautiful film.
I like this movie because of the feeling and the moment it captures.
It may help that I am drawn to movies where nothing of significance really happens. But I would argue, this movie (and many of Linklater's films) capture the MOST significant parts of life. Friendships, camaraderie, teammate dynamics, the beginning of relationships, the beginning of a lot of things, everyday joking and competiting with your buds.
Side notes:
- unfortunately most people i recommend this movie to are unimpressed (but i think they don't get it lol)
- i love baseball and think Linklater does too, but baseball is just the backdrop here
