If you judged this just on premise and synopsis alone, you would think it would end up being a super cheesy B movie. It is anything BUT that. Super well executed, a color palette that rivals the cold and isolation of the shining, and an incredible script and lineup of performances that make this an absolute hit. John Carpenter knows horror, and this classic is no exceptions

Also love playing my mental drinking mini game of “take a shot every time there’s a Bowling Green geographical reference”

Pretty interesting twist on some slasher/giallo/gothic tropes. Mario Bava is definitely an innovator, just doesn’t really stick a landing. Some really cool set pieces with all the mannequins and wedding dresses, as well as great cinematography, but sadly the writing and performances are lackluster.

I have literally. No words. For what I just experienced. But I’m thrilled to have experienced this in my lifetime.

Remake of Fellini’s Satyricon (adding to watchlist asap) with aggressive, boisterous, ultra-manic hip-hop/synth-wonderland musical frame work??? Visually influenced by retro games (specifically of the fantasy/point and click variety), 2000s adult swim late night fever dreams, and….the sims?? It’s something that needs to be seen to be explained, but I personally thought it was visionary and a work of mixed media…

Making my way through more Corman/Price/Poe with the first of theirs! Decent adaptation, nothing super out there, other than just solid plot and performances. Captures the gothic vibe and doesn’t really try to do much else outside of that. I can see some big inspirations from this film in others like Suspiria and other giallo.
