  One of this month's re-watches was Ildikó Enyedi's 'Body and Soul', and even though it was more of a coincidence that I was watching Enyedi's earlier film it really gripped me.   Was listening to David Schmader's DVD audio commentary yesterday. Quite funny actually. However, Schmader just doesn't understand that SHOWGIRLS should also be understood as a genre pic - and films about dance and sex are often the most ludicrous of all. To quote Maude Lebowski, "the story's ludicrous". Things in the film are ludicrous because they have to be ludicrous because it's all part of the genre. Having said that, and despite being a genre pic, it is also a Verhoeven pic, and it is kinda irritating that Schmader doesn't seem to be familiar with most of Verhoeven's films.
