In a stellar career thus far, still stands as the crowning jewel. The interweaving of history and fairy tale hits just as hard the nth time as it did the first time. Astounding production design, incredibly creepy creature design (particularly the Pale Man, shoutout to Doug Jones in all his horrific incaractions but especially this one), buoyed by one of the most self-assured juvenile film performances of all time. Ivana Baquero truly carries, gives this film the audience surrogate beating heart that is so integral to all GDT’s work. Wonderful movie

Another family movie watch with another Bong flick, mom was asking if we could watch another soon, “I really like his movies”. Not one for the dog lovers!!!!

I have mixed feelings about this one, it felt unnecessarily mean-spirited at times and it was quite uneven, but it was a really fascinating debut and showed that Bong had jumped onto the scene with an already very strong sense of tonal command, as well as the chops for some really cool…
