Taxi Driver 1976
Hypnotizing exploration of a depressed man navigating masculinity and love. We see Travis take an observers position as he silently judges those he finds in his back seat. While despising the scum he finds himself surrounded by, he engages in the same activities as they do; frequenting porno theaters and abusing his body. His inner dialogue is rambling and incoherent at times, like the scenes of the movie one thought bleeds into the next. Some lines seem out of place, almost like internal thoughts verbalized without others acknowledging them. The movie itself seems like a fever dream. Best viewed at 3:00am alone.
