A movie packed with action and wrapped with an abscense of plot. Delightful reenactment of Las Vegas' notorious history. Scorsese gathers his gang of American-Italian pioneers of acting in order to feed a hungry audience spoons full of gorgeous cinematography and a smooth story-telling that pursues the action in real time. The film successfully captures the ambience of the life inside a german submarine. Gives a story full of genuine characters and their struggles. Manages to tell the war from the side we aren't used to listen from. Puts it all in the trash with that forced and absurd ending. It's a shame those 3 hours of excellent cinematography and acting had to go to waste just to fit an agenda. But whatever makes the narrow minds that cannot accept anything that wasn't repeated tirelessly for 50 years of cinema, happy.

Beautiful movie with an unmatched cinematography. Manages to capture the whole scenery of war with a simple plot following 2 soldiers around the battlefield. Incredible attention to detail that reflect the grim and dark sides of war without exaggerating tragedies and dramatizing deaths, just the way it was in those times. Very emotionally moving. Amazing scores and gorgeous background sets all along the movie feels like a treat to your eyes and ears.
