There's a lot of nuance here that I didn't fully absorb during my first viewing. Selfishness, avoidant personalities, transference. I don't typically come back to these long, emotionally heavy films, just because they lose some of their potency over multiple viewings. This one actually hit me somewhat differently the second time, and now I love it even more.

Cinema Paradiso 1988
First love is not a person, but something we discover much earlier along the path. We take it for granted, perhaps even set it aside for a time to chase after something new, something we think we can't live without. Perhaps we catch that thing, or perhaps not. Either way, it occupies our life for a time, until the day we find ourselves back at the beginning and find our first love there waiting for us. Only after completing the circle can we understand that wholeness only comes from within.

Masculin Féminin 1966
An ambitious but naive young woman falls in love with a dude who has the personality of used toilet paper. People have excruciating, monotonous conversations. Godard's genius may be blooming somewhere just beneath the surface, but I'm too lost and indifferent to care.
