  The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2023

  Mostly pretty fun, especially when Bowser is on screen. Some parts go way overboard with the game references in my opinion, it’s almost the opposite extreme as the ‘93 movie which is so original that it barely resembles Mario at all. All the licensed music annoyed me a lot but the actual remixes of Mario game tunes were great.

  Honestly, this movie is so much fun. It’s not even so bad it’s good, it’s genuinely very funny, has a lot of charm, and looks good with a weird and distinct visual style that works well for me. The way it uses things from the actual Mario games is so loose and bizarre that I hesitate to even call it a ‘take’ on what happens in the games. It’s just a wacko movie that happens to use lots of Mario…

  This was pretty crazy. Lots of good action and a lot of twists, some of which were pretty predictable. It’s all a little wacky in the story department idk how to explain it without just saying what happens but it turns out to be way more absurd than I expected.

  Somehow even better than the last one. I’m always a little shocked by how dark this gets with the sacrificial killing and cult stuff and like child slavery, but it all serves to create high stakes for the characters and make Indy more heroic than he’d been before.

Following
