Rocky II 1979
Rocky explores the difficulties of maintaining financial security, fulfillment, and familial obligations after making it big. He utterly fails and his pregnant wife nearly dies because of the stress he puts onto her after she continuously expresses her concerns. As soon as she comes to though, against her previous dismay, encourages Rocky to fight.
In his mind, she fits perfectly back into her role of his obedient wife that supports him no matter what.
Or at least that’s how it felt to me. There are definitely pretty good things here but the angle I presented was too distracting to enjoy those pretty good things as intended.

Movie was cool and all but the moment towards the beginning when rocky “brings Adrian out of her shell” at his apartment, was pretty uncomfortable and I feel needs to be reexamined. The movie overall is supposed to be a reexamination of what masculinity can, and perhaps should, look like and I was glad to see it subverts some of those hegemonic masculinity stereotypes but in the end it still fails to hold its men accountable in how their actions…
