Not your typical D&D adventure, but I've always thought sorcerers were more mysterious and powerful than wizards. Bleak and beautifully gritty, the narrative drives forward relentlessly down broken, muddy roads, just like the monster trucks guided by a set of characters that, for all you know, may have died earlier in the film and no one told them to stop as they get closer to hell. Although it's known for the electronica soundtrack of Tangerine Dream, the real music is the constant environmental sounds that surround everything the way only a Seventies can do.
Mesmerizing hypnotic images slowly unfold into the semblance of a story. Alien figures trudge along alternating streets of an alien planet called Scotland, completely unaware of what's happening in the fog and surf and bare trees. 2001 meets Taxi Driver as directed by Ingmar Bergman. The sound design and the music will haunt me and I think I love it.
