Crying Ladies 2003
Ang hot nilang lahat.
Filipino dark comedy dramas about funerals and death always deliver. It follows the theme of loss, all of the characters had their own forms of loss and own ways of grieving. I love how the story felt very genuine but not too cruel to the characters. The actors were really great, the seasoned stars of the 70s-90s truly have the range. The editing and remastering were beautifully done too. Stella's (Sharon Cuneta) emotionally demanding scene was my favorite performance.

Gusto Kita with All My Hypothalamus 2018
Movie version ng Cool Girl monologue ni Amy Dunne.
I'd like to believe that this was really meant to be an uncomfortable watch because that was how it was for me the whole time. It felt long and unfulfilled up until the last few scenes where the storylines all concluded with Aileen (Iana Bernardez). That version of Aileen is then revealed to be no one and everyone. We absolutely know nothing about her but we believe we know who she is. She is the city, the loneliness, and the desire of the patriarchal hypothalamus.

Leonor Will Never Die 2022
Leonor Will Never Die is a love letter to the Filipino filmmaking and creatives industry. This is a fresh quirky take on the trope of the writer enters the world of their own works. I loved how meta this film was while still being able to convey the grief that clouded Leonor throughout her life. With her last act of taking control of her life is by playing God in her own world - an escapist's version of an 80s action film. Though, I would have preferred more screentime between Rudie and Leonor.
