RIP david lynch, a true auteur and a real artist  who was dedicated to  his craft without compromise

still one of the most devastatingly traumatic melancholy stories of american horror ever

a true introspection into the psyche of hidden sorrow and trauma through lynch’s ethereally surrealistic lens that’s at times so overwhelming it hurts.

laura palmer you will always be the patron saint of the traumatized heartbroken girls.

oh to be desired by an angel at a goth post punk and  nick cave show so deeply that he’d be willing to become human to touch you

a beautifully grounded and profound meditation on existentialism and it’s contrasting relationship with spirituality. the aching desires of humanity that are perceived by two angels with a yearning for understanding but also of participation. the sobering perspective on what being the observer feels like, yet tenderly viewing humanity in all its complexity.

    surprisingly…

an achingly real yet tender portrayal of the dynamics between two men who are in love within the context of the pressures from social and personal  complexities. ahead of it’s time in its approach to gay identity regarding sexual freedom vs the desire for domesticity and assimilation.

this film captures the moment in which homosexuality entered the mainstream conversation surrounding gay rights. splicing footage of a pride march as a backdrop to a tense romantic story allows for a message…

not as sufficiently gripping as pearl or X were, as well as missing the atmospheric buildup that would truly embody the campy edgy grittiness of an 80’s stylized horror film.

while the homages to old hollywood were nice, the movie felt like it was trying to do too many things at once and unfortunately falls flat on it’s own ambition, particularly on the deflating third act. true wasted potential.

regardless, mia goth delivers a great performance that concluded her rise from an underground cinephile it girl into the mainstream world….eerily similar to the story of maxxxine.
