Desert Hearts 1985
Women in love, horses, and a good sound track. The whole movie is riddled with repression (as most lesbian films are), yet this one moves beyond it (refreshing!). It’s a bit boilerplate at times but has some beautiful moments, and captures ranch atmosphere well. All in all a convincing and honest story. Two women in love, what could be more blissful, blinding, and hedonistic?

The Science of Sleep 2006
Had so many elements of something I’d love, but didn’t quite do it for me. The biggest problem is the characters, (especially Stéphane), annoyed me the entire film. He briefly won me over in the dancing scene. By the end of the movie my thoughts on him are: paranoid and pathétique. Overall, I was entertained but irritated. It does a pretty good job at capturing dream states. I love the mixed media creativity. The best line was “I like your boobs. I think they’re friendly and unpretentious.” 3/5.
