Blown away by the cinematography and lighting in this film. So much to unpack.

It’s the first film I’ve seen set in a prison that doesn’t just focus on black male violence. Although the characters are trapped inside the prison , the way in which this film is shot and focuses solely on the main characters interactions makes you feel as though your inside another imaginary world they’ve created to survive the system.

Always forget what a classic this is.
Love the surreal set design and use of colour.

Feels wrong to call this a good film due to its subject matter. But this was definitely one of the freshest new films I’ve seen in some time.

Beautifully bleak. Incredible cinematography with a great use of light and colour in contrast. Although the storyline is on the morbid side. James’s character and spirit seem to lift moments of the film as you experience the world through his eyes. Amazing set direction and costumes so true to it’s time. I love a film the completely absorbs you into its world, it felt too real at parts.
The only film I could compare it to is Kes.
