i don’t like horror movies soooor i’m not really familiar with what makes an objectively good one BUT this move was freaking epic. love the themes of iconography, religion, and religious archaeology, and the story mirroring Dante’s Inferno made the plot 100x more interesting. the ending was pure (as pure as you can get here) but i didn’t like the juxtaposition between how worldly the logic for the solution was vs how otherworldly the rest of the movie is. felt…
left so much to be answered, i thought about it for days after watching. i had to deep dive into every perception and dissection of its symbolism/analysis, and even then i still combed over it while going through my day. great buildup that leads to a lot of dead ends, which makes the twist so much more confusing and satisfying. this movie is like a wart(in a good way)
