Very Forsterian in its politics. Reminded me somewhat of EMF’s personal life, and of those of his friends and lovers in Northern Africa.
Gay trans masculinity in the style of Daphne Du Maurier—Emma Thompson is of course, an excellent choice. The way in which obvious reasons as to why a gay man and “woman” who expressed that “she” wished she was a boy and who seems to have been struck by dysphoria, might have loved each other are overlooked by biographers and Wikipedia articles is of course to be expected. The movie is beautiful.
