  A Clockwork Orange 1971

  ★★★★★ Rewatched 15 Apr 2015

  Everything about this film works for me. The lighting, production design, score, and the narration pull me into this world and don't let go. The pacing is just right as it slides from nights of the ultra violence, to prison, to rehabilitation and then the return to society. Overall I always enjoy coming back to this film and listening to Alex go on about his droogs, love of the ole in-out, and his admiration for Beethoven.

  This is Bong Joon Ho’s messiest film, with lingering plot lines, a surplus of characters that feel like they had scenes cut, and moral dilemmas left unexplored. The first act is a bit heavy on voiceover for my taste, but I found myself enjoying the humor, which really picked up as the movie progressed. Pattinson delivers a standout performance, and I particularly liked Ruffalo and Collette couple as a deranged Lady Macbeth figure whispering in the ear of an amalgamation…

  While an entertaining movie it doesn't hold up to the pure joy of the first two movies. Sally Fields is desperately missed, IMO she was the heart of the first two movies and Emily Mortimer was basically forgettable in this.

  Inherent Vice is weird ride filled with fascinating characters and an incomprehensible plot. While I was never bored and was very interested to see what would happen next like The Master I'm not really sure what it all amounts to. Both films contain great moments, but to me it seems like the moments themselves are greater then the whole. That being said PTA has created his most visually stunning movie yet.
