It’s beautiful how much we need each other. How much love and support people have to give and how we can rise to the occasion. How we can’t survive without other people. This movie is simple and beautiful in its portrayal of brotherly love, in the creativity and resilience of humanity, how powerful humans are even when bound by forces, physical and otherwise, beyond their own control.

Another film where the director is masterful in forcing empathy from the viewer…

    Haven’t cried like this in a movie…ever?

The way Darius forces violent empathy out of his viewer is masterful.

The performance by Riz Ahmed is on the same level, he is entirely and completely his character. No space between him as an actor and Ruben.

What a connection between the two of them.

What really happened was Odysseus lost his cab fare on his way home from Troy and then he got stuck in and around spring street until Cheech and Chong stole him back from his lonely artist captress and dropped him right back at his word processing job just in time for work to start again.

One more thing: I don’t think I would’ve lived on spring street in the 80s but I wish I would’ve lived on spring street in the 80s but I’m glad I didn’t.

Bonus: The band Toto has another song besides Africa by Toto and it’s called Rosanna.

     Really though, I loved it.
