Hypnotic pacing. Garland builds it up in an original way. War movies are lauded for being “human” or “real” by oscillating between trained soldier and wounded animal, and this movie puts a magnifying glass to that dynamic and burns right through it.

Totally overwhelmed and unsettled me. Left the film with a knot in my stomach.
You wake up and you’re amazed that you’re in the same body every morning. There’s no reason you shouldn’t be, but there’s no reason you should be, either. So, if your mind starts to drift away from all of your familiar feelings, all of your familiar sensations, well, then perhaps you have become unfamiliar to yourself.
