Antonioni has a particular way of making deliberate pacing absolutely exhilarating. Saw this once on TV and loved it. Rewatched it last night and it felt like a completely different film… Either i fell asleep that first time, or I woke up and started living my life as a different man. Either way, I guess next time should be pretty wild.
Why did i rewatch this title? Why did I rent it multiple times back in the 90s? The answer is simple, my friends. Because it’s there.
Yo... this movie is really good... I don’t understand these middling reviews... Strong script, cast, story... Is it because it’s NOT Goodfellas, The Wire, or ‘71 that you don’t like it? A friend said to me recently, “I’m so tired of people judging things for what they are not.” I can’t agree more.
Really strong and well-rounded. A working class reality check, potent Detroit mythology, and poignant indictment of the police, our criminal justice system, and the failed War on…
The story of 3 sexist, racist, anti-semitic, impotent self-loathing homophobic motocross bros who patronize a food stand selling dog-food croquettes to unsuspecting customers, run by an unapologetic goldigger and her gang-rapist brother, while cheering on Rutger Hauer’s racing career.
Unfortunately, it’s also pretty good. Come for the fries, stay for the dicks.
