“Sometimes I think I have felt everything I’m ever gonna feel. And from here on out I’m never gonna feel anything new. Just lesser versions of what I’ve felt”

“We’re only here briefly, and while I’m here I want to allow myself … joy”

Sometimes, all you need is to drop deep into the abyss to feel what’s it’s like to see the sky again.

I feel fortunate to be able to say I know exactly what Theodore feels…

“We only realize how beautiful live is when we face death”

The scene that stands out to me the most is of course the end, as Watanabe sits alone on the legacy he built. Yet, he is not alone in this moment, he is surrounded by the joy, the laughter, and the childhood innocence of those who will enjoy the playground. Though he dies alone, he dies with the passing of his spirit and his newfound love and appreciation…

Ending threw me a bit, but as per usual, Linklater’s screenplay is immaculate.

I really can’t believe what I’ve just watched.

Unflinchingly terrifying, and absolutely zero chill on how gruesome it could get. David Fincher is one of a kind, and while Zodiac and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo didn’t land for me, this was absolutely fantastic no matter how terrifying it was.

Still, I don’t think you’ll find me watching this again for a long, long time.
