A tale of coming of age. Like many others in the same category, this one is stained by repetitive stereotypes. Unlike others, it pushes the portrayal of the mundane into eviscerating moments of innocent love, naivety, fear, and joy. The mother as a sturdy foundation of a quirky and complex family struggling through tough times was perhaps the most eviscerating theme of them all; it hit right at home.
