Before seeing this I was interested in the potential it seemed to hold for opening up possibilities and validating the limited constructs of massively popular game worlds , but was disappointed to find that it was as saccharine as any other mediocre documentary rather than something as fresh and new as it presented itself to be, and in the end contradicted itself by finally favouring “real life”.

If every writer’s room in 2024 collectively tried to wrap their heads around conjuring something this good and simple and funny and inventive and charming it would cause mass workplace burnout.
This was perfectly fun to watch, especially in a theatre, up until the point where everything felt inevitable and obvious to predict, and then it was only okay as it dragged a little long. I felt the movie flirting with - but ultimately completely avoiding - an uncomfortable confrontation with how violent and deeply nerve-wrecking the situation ought to seem, and so the result felt like it possessed the lightness of an average comedy while posturing as something viscerally real…
