  No need to reinvent the wheel here. It’s almost beat for beat with the first film. Why not double down with TWO emperors and bonus Denzel?

  The standout performance in both comes from the villain: In one the immoral emperor, in the other the scheming politician. Denzel, as the historically real scheming politician, Macrinus,  fiddles with his clothing constantly; the fit is never quite right for him, having been born a slave and longing for the emperor’s robes.

  Overly drawn out, we just want to hear the songs. Needs more dancing. Costumes and sets were lovely. Enjoyed the world building, but the stakes seemed small— not enough screen time given to the animal story, Elphaba’s flip to wicked was weak.
