    It’s very tempting to go full Letterboxd and say Chloe Sevigny buck naked playing Oni is a vibe. But then, that combination of aesthetics andunseriousness is what’s great and eye-rolling about this movie, a gorgeous, sexy, chic thriller, marred by the glum suspicion that the director thinks it has an important message.     Family movie night.
    The movie’s early commitment to elegantly storyboarded wordless sequence had me worried that this would be the sort of movie that earns critical kvelling while boring kids. The opening was, for me at this particular viewing, a fascinating demonstration of how something that works perfectly well in theory can lose an audience– a simple chickens vs farmers gag was played too dark, too slow, and we were all observing its cleverness without ever being caught up.
