I have enjoyed Eggers' work in the past but didn't find a lot of what I previously enjoyed in this particular film. That's not to say this film is not worth seeing - it is. i just wanted to see some more inventiveness. LRD is solid. Vampires provide endless opportunities to artists.

B-movie feel but with good acting. A few scenes move the narrative into a body horror fantasy world which is a unsettling but OK. It is all set in a strange, dangerous Breaking Bad-esque New Mexico location. Made me want to watch Rose Glass' earlier film Saint Maud.

Can be confusing but it's such a generous film that anyway you want to understand it is fine. Beautiful casting, cinematography and sentiment. Will it bring Frankie Goes To Hollywood new fame ... probably not but the end song is soul stirring.
