  Andrea Arnold tries her hand at magical realism, blending her usual naturalistic and gritty style with heavy symbolism and fantasy elements. Unfortunately this really didn't work for me and those moments bordered on being silly, with one scene in particular completely losing me and ruining everything up to that point.

  Still, it's a bold film with some great performances and a few really standout moments.

  Both a brilliant concert film with some great musical performances and a fascinating time capsule, a glimpse into a provocative and nihilistic subculture of music.

  The film focuses on one band at a time, giving us some raw concert footage and some behind the scenes interviews with the bands in their various hovels, and in the case of Black Flag an actual squat.
