La Strada 1954
Girl goes off with traveling performer to save her family from destitution. She likes the work but he’s abusive. She tries to leave but he finds her. She meets a guy who gives her hope but she sticks with her man. Stockholm syndrome? He murders the other guy after repeated comedic insults, which breaks her completely. He leaves her on the side of a wintery road, but he’s consumed by guilt too. Movie ends with us knowing that the girl died years later and he is just crying on a beach.
