Robert Zemeckis is a 60/40 director in relation to good/average work. This is one of his best with really good humor and remember why we love toons. Probably better there was no sequel because Zemeckis sequels kinda blow. There will be only one Jessica Rabbit.
This collaboration between Eastwood and Costner is highly underrated. I felt incredible sympathy for Costner’s antihero, in that when a child’s “wiring” is damaged by parental violence. Viewers are pulling for them to chart a better path as an adult.
Having lived through the nuclear proliferation of the 1980’s I’m surprised we are all still here. This is an emotionally draining film that examines power in all its forms and the destruction that eventually will follow. Nolan is at the top of his game with an Oscar in his future.
If you suspend disbelief then you’ll have a great time watching this “ballet of homicide” Also friendship among assassins is a continuing concept in this chapter. Every city represented is quite stunning to look at. There is an excellent homage to 1979’s “The Warriors” when John is fighting his way thru Paris. Well done Mr Wick.
