Visually one of the best if not the best looking animated films I’ve ever seen, but it does fall into the spectacle over substance sort of film. There are so many moments in the movie where it almost feel like it has to be ai generated, because it just seems so unbelievable that this was hand drawn.

However I appreciate that only essentials are explained and shown. No need to explain or over invest into characters, we get only what…

Almost the most slice of lifey movie out there in a really interesting. It’s kinda almost an antidote to the existential crisis of meaning in life. It makes me want to think that what we value as a society often don’t reflect the things  that we actually need to be fulfilled. I genuine envy the idea of being fulfilled by the simple interactions in life, to not want to strive for more then the basic necessities. The main character doesn’t even talk about 3/4 of the movie genuinely believed he was mute. A great example of storytelling without aggressively shoving exposition or even plot in our faces.

Spooky how relatable it’s become over time. Maybe that influences this review. Still a really fascinating movie that only I feel like could only be conveyed with such amazing acting performances. Both Scarlett and Joaquin portray they’re respective roles really well. Depressing but at times high highs? Makes you empathize with him and the highs even when it feels weird knowing that maybe it’s possibly a parasocial relationship.

Definitely a biased review, huge sucker for lost civilization stories. Amazing setting with dynamic events and always a deep sense of mystery. Amazing in hindsight just how much influence it has. Beautiful movie. Unfortunately falls into the classic ghibli main character is perfect human and never changes through always does the right thing.
