Having not seen the original (though aware of the many memes), this was a good time, if not feeling a little unneccessary. As a musical fan, I didn't find the book to be anything out of the norm, though the performers were good. Angourie Rice isn't the strongest singer but good for her to put herself out there, which helped her character. I'm not sure if it's the times, or for a musical they wanted to clean it up, but…
