I mean yeah, this is fabulous, heartfelt and heart warming creative filmmaking at its best.
So why only 3.5 Stars?
As a piece of work it’s at least a four star film, I just didn’t gel with it as much as I’d thought I would, and honestly I found the voice work hard to decipher at times, which hampered my enjoyment.

I wanted to love this but only liked it.
The animation is in one moment fabulous and in another quite jarring and basic.
The script needs more punch and the overall story is almost a carbon copy of elements from the original LOTR trilogy.
The run time could have also been reduced by 20 minutes to keep this more sharply focused.
An ambitious and welcome addition to the world of Middle Earth, but a tighter vision would benefit everyone.
An enigmatic and frustrating watch. Like so many King adaptations, you’re better off with the book.
