Blade Runner 2049 2017
I put this movie off for years because I wanted to watch the original before seeing it. It never happened so finally I just took the plunge...and I wish I would have watched the original first. The visuals were obviously impressive and it was aesthetically pleasing, but I just wasn’t fully invested or impressed with the overall story. Most likely I would have loved it a lot more with the background of the first movie. Not a popular opinion but it didn’t live up to the hype for me

Sound of Metal 2019
Powerful movie with Oscar worthy performances from Riz Ahmed and Paul Raci. While I could have watched another hour of Ruben engaging with the deaf children and using his drums experience to teach them about percussion and sound, I think the movie took a more realistic turn and didn’t give you the happy ending that is often found in reality. It’s a subject matter that doesn’t get enough attention

Apocalypto 2006
Watched for the first time in probably 7 years or so. Was one of my favorite movies and college and it holds up nicely. Violence is gratuitous but it has a very authentic feel and it’s very well made. Also have to appreciate that they were able to use unknown actors to play the major roles. Pretty incredible movie
