How uncomfortable the movie is at moments is palpable, and it’s supposed to be. The “relationship” the movie centers is uncomfortable, and I feel like it was done well. The campy, almost horror elements can be a bit jarring given the subject matter but it doesn’t take away too much from the film. The performances are nuanced and Portman, as always, does well with sinister undertones. Melton’s performance was a nice deviation from previous work, showing a much larger range that is impressive. How he regresses back to a 13 year old is heartbreaking
