Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One is my favourite Star Wars movie.

I didn’t grow up in the 70’s or 80’s - i grew up in the 90’s - however - i HUGELY, HUGELY, appreciate and enjoy the original trilogy. I really do. I love it all, the characters, the lore - the merchandise! - However, what Rogue one does, is take Star Wars out of the bubble of just ‘favourite Star Wars movies’ & places itself in the rest of the world, with other…

Just to give you an idea on the span of this film, the title card shows up in the 40th Minute. Plus, there’s a Noah's arks worth of semi trained CGI animals.

It’s ‘Indiana Jones meets The Departed.’ It’s ‘West Side Story meets Rain Man with a sprinkle of Rambo’. In all my years of watching films, i’ve never seen anything with this many ‘Hollywood Exaggerations’. However, i couldn’t pull my eyes away.

Super conflicted after getting out of Gladiator 2. Many points to talk about, so i’ll start here.

The opening credits: WOW. Took me right back and put me right into the thick of this movie. Probably my favourite part.

The opening scene was also really good, and i have to say Paul Mescal is bloody great in this movie. I haven’t seen a lot of his work, but he was brilliant.

Denzel Washington was great. I don't expect anything less…

If it contains the name Dev Patel, i’ll watch it.

I’ll say it how it is: I liked parts of this movie and disliked others. 2hrs runtime, probably could have been shaved to 1hr 30. Trim the fat and give us the long and short of it. It’s a cool, gritty looking revenge movie.

Dev Patel proves he can do badass, regardless of whether he has 5 lines in a movie, or not.

I wanted to like this movie more…
