  There’s a scene in the documentary The Act of Killing (2012) where Anwar Congo is a guest on a daytime talk show. On the show he is celebrated as a hero for his hand in the killing of possibly over a million people during the Indonesian mass killings of 1965–66. The attitude is casual as Congo describes the killings, even getting laughs from the audience occasionally. If you weren’t paying attention, you would assume it’s a Good Morning America segment…

  A snapshot of a time and a culture that I was never apart of, and most likely can’t exist anymore. I’ve never been to a ball or a pageant, but I’ve been to a handful of drag shows. It’s really interesting to see how the events portrayed in the film and what I have personally witnessed are so drastically different. The ball’s shown in the film are based off of self-reflection and self-love of a group that was incredibly marginalized…

  Would be a whole lot better without the additional directors cut CGI added in lmao. A lot of these ideas were ripped straight from A Brave New World, but they are presented so well that it’s hard not to be impressed. Insanely good production design, especially considering how cheap this is. Sound design is top notch. Very industrial.
