  Had so much fun working on this film and each time viewing I notice another beautiful touch of design. I prefer Wes’s live actions to his animations but his eye for detail and perfection are infectious. It has a melancholy air to it but once you embrace that it’s a rewarding watch.

  It’s ok but only just. Visually good, if a little monochromatic, with excellent production design but simply lacking depth but then the book never really grabbed me either. Oh and it’s only part one and the rather camp original is much more fun.

  Quite simply a masterpiece. Unique plot beautifully shot by the wonderful Chung Hoon Chung, (with whom I’ve worked). I tried to convince Matthew Vaughn to direct the remake in the vague hope it might end his career but alas…

  Really could have done with some cuts. Went to a Q&A and the actors said as much. They simply didn’t have the chops to do whole scenes in single takes and it all felt like a film-course exercise. The whole premise of the single shot movie didn’t advance the tension one bit. Shame as Mendes’ American Beauty is an exceptional piece of work.
