This movie was a SLOG of a start, but once the henchman came along it was hilarious and started to be really compelling. I’m all for absurd comedy. Good for Mikey Madison not being set on fire in this one 😬.

For the longest time, I only knew this movie as StepKids cause of the early teaser trailer that played before TMNT: Secret of The Ooze. It’s a fun little coming of age story with fourth wall breaks. The family is crazy dysfunctional. The mom and step dad I despise for most of the movie. I loved the 1920s aesthetic for this film. The story is fairly bare, but we’re here to see Donnie Yen do what Donnie Yen things, giving any and everybody those hands. As Chen Zhen (originally played by Bruce Lee followed by Jet Li) and the fight choreographer, it’s fast pace incorporating Wing Chun with MMA that Donnie Yen has been known to implement in other projects he’s spearheaded fight choreography. There’s several homages to Bruce Lee. The Masked Warrior’s outfit is what Kato wore fighting with The Green Hornet. You’ll have fun with this one.
