Little Shop of Horrors 1986
I feel like this film will surprise some giant monster fans in just how well done it is. The musical numbers are well choreographed, the comedy is actually funny, sophisticated and well-timed (that probably has a lot to do with the cast) and they don’t rely on “blue comedy” to get laughs, unlike some modern films. For what it set out to do which is be a unique monster movie with a musical twist I feel like it succeeds.

King Kong Escapes 1967
It’s the same King Kong tropes that we know and love with a Toho and Tokusatsu twist.
Big, fantastical characters, elaborate sets, and decent Kaiju battles thanks to the late great Nakajima. As always Takarata is the star of the show.

Reigo: King of the Sea Monsters 2008
This film can be summed up for me in two words, UNREALIZED POTENTIAL. I see the vision for what the film was supposed to be and wanted to represent, and I respect it for the risks that it took.

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 1974
Although many rank Terror of Mechagodzilla above this one, this ranks in the top 5 in my list of Godzilla films. The way fantasy, science fiction, spy genre, and historical and cultural significance all combine to create this film are both fun and interesting.
After researching a little bit of the history between mainland Japan and Okinawa, I have a greater appreciation for what Fukuda was trying to accomplish with this one.
