Soderbergh must’ve watched Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and thought: “What if the main guy wasn’t a sad loser?”
The whodunit itself is fairly simply to guess early on, but this was still a breezy and cool thriller. The script itself uses a lot of intelligence jargon (which was fun as someone who took a class on Cold War Spies). Though rapid, the screenplay is never confusing to follow. My problem, and maybe this was just in my theater, was that the mixing made some of the dialogue sound muffled and quiet at times. Nice to see Marisa Abela in more roles where she’s clearly having fun.
