Mad God 2021
I'm not sure what's more depressing: the film itself or the fact that people claim it has no narrative.
This should be viewed as a masterclass in visual storytelling - if you have the slightest ounce of imagination you can piece together an ocean of lore and meaning through what the film presents you, especially because of the purposeful absence of any direct explanation.
Nonetheless, subjectivity should not be conflated with a lack of intentionality - the aforementioned visual storytelling in large part is only effective because every frame was deliberately put together in order to elicit an emotional and/or intellectual response in the viewer.

Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters 1985
Significantly more compelling and tragic than most fiction, watching this biographical work elicits sympathy, respect, and understanding for the life and work of one of modern history's most fascinating artists.
While my personal political views differ greatly from the film's subject, I find it impossible to fully disagree with Mishima, as Paul Schrader brilliantly expresses the man's unwavering intelligence and philosophical consistency.
Above all else is the score by Philip Glass, the most emotionally provocative I've ever experienced, melancholic yet…
