It's got that 70s stilt and uneven pace, but the music is amazing, the river scenes beautifully shot, and the overall story is pretty darn compelling.

Awful, horrible and unrealistic because you can understand everything every Jamaican character says perfectly the first time you hear them speak./s
But seriously, this movie is kinda the epitome of 90s fun, complete with that old school Disney logo with the simple blue background and ahhhh sound. It's super family friendly but rarely in a way that feels saccharine or pandering.
The core cast is pretty great. They're all charming in their roles and have solid interplay. The "bad mutha'"…
So damn good until it falters near the end. It isn't even an extended sequence, only a single scene. But the tone is so mismatched that it derails the beautifully constructed tension thats been building. And while that's truly unfortunate, it's still a great movie.
I did in fact watch this because of the recent disappearance of the Titan submersible. And I'm glad I did but...
It's got some problems, but it's got tight pacing and is really well acted. Just solid work on all of the main characters' parts. Hackman is at his most stubbornness and Washington at his most conscientiousness. Respective to leads' roles, Gandolfini and Mortensen are also excellent in serving as supporting foils.
There's also some interesting subtext about race relations…
