  On first glance, this is David Lynch's most grounded-in-reality film and I think in general it is. However, the way in which the suburbs are presented create an interesting dynamic, they are almost unreal, a fake facade in which too much poking around can quickly reveal the dark underbelly of the aforementioned facade.   The things that we conjure for ourselves to cope with grief are incredible. Conspiracies and truths meld, dream and AI and reality meld. Cronenberg is his most human, his most vulnerable here and Vincent Cassel plays the most obvious self insert of any of his films. That is hard to watch in many ways, but it also leaves me with something else that I can't explain. I don't think this is a very strong Cronenberg but there is no filmmaker…
